One of the requirements for a Schengen visa that can delay the visa application process includes certification of marriage and birth certificates (for children) if you got married outside the UK.
For example: if you hold a marriage certificate issued in Thailand and you are submitting your visa application for a Schengen visa, first you need to get your marriage certificate translated into English by a notary service, after that the translation of the marriage certificate must be legalised by the Thai Consulate in the UK.
Another example: if you got married in Russia, the translation of your marriage certificate must be certified by the Russian Consulate in London or Edinburgh. Please note that some consulates require to book an appointment to do that, and according to our experience it may take between 2 and 4 weeks to get one, so allow enough time for the whole process.
