Information about Schengen visas
The first thing you should do before applying for a Schengen visa is decide which country you will be travelling to. All travel and accommodation expenses will need to be confirmed before you can apply for a visa.
Schengen Countries
With a Schengen visa, you may travel to 26 European countries: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malta, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland.Note: United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland are NOT participants in the Schengen Agreement.
In order to visit one or more of the above-mentioned states, you have to obtain a Schengen visa. Each country has its own visa application form and requirements which can vary greatly.
The main rules to submit documents for a Schengen visa are:
If you want to visit only one Schengen state, you have to prepare your documents to be lodged to that Embassy.
If you want to visit two or more Schengen states, you have to prepare your documents to be lodged to the Embassy of the country which is your main destination defined by the length of stay or other criteria from that Embassy.
If you intend to visit two or more Schengen states but you have no main destination (equal length of stay in each country), you need to prepare your documents to be lodged at the Embassy of the country which you intend to visit first.
Please feel free to contact us for more information if you are not sure for which Embassy to prepare the documents.
To help you decide which country you need to apply to, you will need to know the details of your trip. If you are travelling to one country only you will need to apply in that country's Consulate.
If you are travelling around the Schengen States you will need to apply to the country you enter first or the country you will be staying in the longest (this is to be established from your air/rail/sea tickets and your accommodation booking).
If you are planning to stay with friends or family, you will need to obtain a certificate of board and lodging. This is an official invitation from the residents that own the property which you are planning to stay at. This will need to be stamped by the local Town Hall or Police Station in that area. This stamp is to verify that the property does exist and that you are officially invited to stay there.
